Endometrial Cancer Prevention and Screening

Endometrial cancer is the 6th most common cancer and the 14th leading cause of cancer deaths among women worldwide. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can significantly reduce risk.

Key prevention strategies include:

Maintaining a healthy weight: A body mass index (BMI) between 18.5 and 24.9 kg/m² is considered normal in many Asian countries.

Engaging in physical activity: Aim for 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise each week—such as brisk walking, swimming, dancing, or running.

Considering hormone medications carefully: Avoid estrogen-only therapy and discuss combination estrogen-progesterone options with your doctor.

Considering progesterone- or progestin-containing birth control: IUDs and certain birth control pills may lower endometrial cancer risk.

Screening involves looking for cancer before symptoms appear. Early detection allows treatment at an earlier stage and improves the chances of recovery.

Women experiencing unusual or irregular vaginal bleeding should consult a healthcare provider. Screening is also recommended for those at increased risk, such as women with Lynch syndrome.

Taking preventive steps and being proactive about screening can make a life-saving difference.
